A solid idea run by competent, honest people – what’s not to like about an organization that gives you a bowl of daal and 2 naans for Rps. 5? Heck, a Ding Dong costs 4 rupees. The tandoor (in Karachi) operates out of Hazara Colony, and opens at 8:00pm every evening.

Here’s the best part though: We went there expecting it to be a free for all, with people falling over each other for food. Instead, we were surprised to see people standing in queues – no one was served unless they waited their turn in line. A lot of banks we know ought to take cues from these guys.

Also present was an experienced doctor who would perform routine medical checkups on people and offer them medication for Rps. 20. The Tandoor has also started vocational training for young women – Rps. 15 per month sewing classes in an attempt to equip these females with the requisite skills to earn a living.

On the right are pics of the Tandoor in monotone grey- treated to maximize sympathy points and lull you into donating 80% of your personal wealth to them.
